Unfair to Loyal Customer

I just renewed my Roadside Assistance for the 6th year for $109. I see that a first time user only pays $79. So the first timer gets $35.00 but I a loyal, repeat customer only gets $5.00. I guess that means that the first timer is more valuable than a loyal customer that pays year after year. Doesn't make me feel very welcome.

This is what I do for my Dish Network. I have had it for 15 years. Every time I want to upgrade they want to charge me. I tell them I will just switch over to Direct TV because it will be free. They transfer me over to the customer retention department and they do the upgrade for free.

I agree, it does get under my skin also. It is like a slap in the face to a loyal customer.

The world has changed for the worst ,no respect, dignity or loyalty only $$$$$, so one has to adopt to the situation or pay.
  • I feel the same way, I switched because of it. I am just going to play the deals from now on. Because a loyal customer does not mean anything.

  • I to have been a loyal customer, however I have found that with Good Sam renewing over the phone is best. For the last 4or 5 years I have called and asked the customer service person if there was any way they could help the loyal customer out. For three years in a row they met me half way price wise. I found that very rewarding, now last year they did tell me I could not do it that way any longer. They did however treat me very well if I did a two year deal. Bottom line to me is call for the best deals.
  • It may be common but it ticks me off.

It used to be accepted in small business that it was much cheaper to keep a current customer than get a new one.

I guess it is not the case with big business.

I will just keep switching between the two majors to keep getting the new customer discount.
  • It is a universal practice in the marketing world.

How many of us are going to refuse the sign-up offer protesting that it isn't fail to those loyal long time customers we want to join.
  • This isn't any different than the deals for new customers offered by Dish, DirectTV, Cable, phone companies where they offer a short term discount for new customers.
