Unqualified service person
Had a horrible & needlessly expensive breakdown due to a GS referral to a unqualified diesel service company. My batteries stopped charging and I had to turn off AC, headlights, wipers & everything running in the coach to keep it running. Called GS "platinum" service support and they sent to to what they assured me was not only a certified Cummins engine company, but one who also had RV experience.
King's Truck & Automotive is a 30 year old trailer 5 miles from I-95 in VA with a dozen junk cars and the owner has an old truck with his tools in the front seat. David King looked at my voltage gauge and told me the alternator was gone and he could get a new one on in 60 minutes. He removed the old one, went to the parts store installed the new one and had me fire the engine. Once started I turned on the lights and promptly blew every fuse in the coach.
David King fooled around for 30 minutes before telling me he did not know what to do and I needed to be towed to an RV shop (he claimed he knew RV's but had never seen a Country Coach before). Seven hours I was towed into Elmira, VA to O'Berry's service. After 5 hours of testing and replacing fuses they discovered that King's had installed (wired) the alternator improperly and not only blown the fuses but also my 80 amp ignition solenoid.
So ~$1400 and 26 hours later I was back on the road with what should have been a $350 repair if done by a "qualified" technician. Had to stay one night in a hotel, and throw out everything in my fridge and freezer.
What's interesting is that GS assured me that King's truck had been vetted and checked out, and was supposed to be qualified.
