The form is broken up into three areas – these areas are:

1. Campground & RV Parks - Completeness of facilities: The first campground rating evaluates completeness and quality of facilities. In this category we rate interior roads, sites, registration area, hookups, recreation, swimming, security, laundry, store and building maintenance.

2. Restrooms & Showers - Cleanliness and physical characteristics of restrooms and showers: The second rating category concerns the cleanliness and physical characteristics of toilets, walls, showers, sinks/counters/mirrors and floor. If a park achieves a full point in each of the above, it receives a star, indicating exceptionally clean restrooms. Also rated are physical characteristics of restrooms, including interior construction, adequate supplies/odor free, adequate number of facilities, exterior appearance and location in relation to park spaces, and interior appearance.

3. Visual Appearance/Environmental Quality - Visual Appeal and Environmental Quality: This category addresses the park's setting and site layout, function and identification of signage, overall exterior building maintenance, noise, trash disposal, litter and debris around the grounds and sites, and appearance of grounds, sites and entrance area.

thanks for the email address, I sent my post but have not received any type of response.

Ventura, how are these Good Sam Consultant Team members selected and what are the qualifications. Do they need to be able to see, hear, smell, etc. Is it required that they be able to lie like a politician? From some of their ratings it is quite obvious that the are not required to have very high standard.

Ventura again thanks for the information. I was not aware they check every year. I have to say this there is absolutely no way this park can rate like it did. Please have another team check it out it is sub par and I want that corrected in the guide. Because I like Good Sam and CW and incidents like this make people assume that it is all messed up.

When I mean sub par I mean sub par. I may go out and take pictures to show.

Ventura, thanks you for actually taking the time to let the entire forum know what is going on, not the usual PM used by all others. maybe a volt meter would be a good tool for the inspectors you have in their kit

This was the first trip since purchasing a Surge Guard. It probably saved me several times it's cost. I will never again use park power without first checking.

We use a variety of sources to find campgrounds. We never rely on Good Sam because we, too, have been 'burned' by their ratings. I've tried to contact them on numerous occasions but they never respond and the ratings stay the same. I cannot understand how they can get by with this.

As for the OP, anyone would assume that the electric would be satisfactory even with the low rating the park has. That's a very important part of checking campgrounds. Sorry you went through this.

It is quite obvious that Good Sam/Trailer Life does not even look at a park before rating it. If they were honest they would just say something like "Not Rated" if they have not verified the park, but to show false information is dishonesty of the worst sort. In the future if a park is not in "RV Park Reviews" I will not consider it knowing that Good Sam is not trustworthy. Since Good Sam has proven dishonesty I have doubts about Camping World also.

We tend to take the ratings at face value. Their ratings weren't 9s or 10s but they were high enough for me not to be immediately concerned. But we were knocked over like the OP. We were going to camp at a place in Yorkville IL Hide Away Lakes for the 4th. They said no reservations needed just show up. I was leery, but did not have time to investigate further. Since this place was closer we finally took a ride out to see it.

To quote"This is the worst possible dump" but it was in a great location. This place was a cross between an abandoned trailer park, junk yard and trash dump. There was abandoned trailers with trees growing through and around. There was abandoned trucks from some tree service. There was a 'pool' the 6 people in it were all holding beers and swimming. (which is fine except when you try to say you are family oriented camping)

Good Sam Rating - 7.0 4.5 6.0. We never got out and left. Can I add to this rating? There is no way that it deserves a 7 for facility and 6 for appeal!! I will not comment on the bathroom because I never checked, though I doubt it would be worthy of even the 4.5

Needless to say we were to close to book any other place and hence are staying home this upcoming weekend. So I got screwed out of a camping weekend.
