We Need Help!

In 2010 we purchased the Good Sam Extended Service on a new Grand Junction Fifth Wheel. In April 2013 both the truck and fifth wheel were destroyed in an accident. We took the proceeds from our insurance and purchased a 2002 Diplomat motor home from Mt. Comfort RV, where we had purchased the fifth wheel. We are supposed to be in Florida in a few days, and we took the motor home to Camping World for service. We had driven it only four times in 2013 and never more than 80 miles a trip. Camping World found serious problems with the motor home that we were never informed of at Mt. Comfort: the steering system is toast and the floor boards under the bedroom are wet and are growing black mold, so the boards, carpeting and motor will have to be replaced. We are retired, and this is devastating to us. We feel we were duped by Mt. Comfort, but when we called about our Good Sam Extended Service plan to help pay the costs, we were told it does not cover the motor home. We did not even realize we had to transfer the policy and thought it covered whatever we drove. Can we please get some help with this problem? We think Mt. Comfort owes us a different motor home because of the condition of the Diplomat that I'm sure they were fully aware of. Their mechanic was supposed to check everything out before we took possession, and he said everything was in top shape. The mold is now growing up the walls in the bedroom and has destroyed the tapestry which will also have to be replaced. Please, see if there isn't something Good Sam can do to help us! PLEASE!!!

  • You don't really expect the plan that was purchased on a 5er to cover repairs on a motorhome, do you?
  • Must be nice to have so much art that you hang your tapestries in the motorhome. Is the Rembrant under the sink? In all seriousness, apparently the rig has been stored for several months. There is no way any dealer is going to do anything on a 12 year old motorhome, bought 10 months or so ago. The lesson here is check your rig occasionally, even if it is not being used. Idle rigs are the devil's tools.
  • I just don't know what to say here to offer any help. Of course they should have known the extended warranty only covered the rig they had insured it with. It's just like a car. You need different insurance for each different car and it doesn't automatically transfer over. (well you get automatic coverage for a short time when you add or trade a vehicle, but eventually you have to change the policy)

As far as the extended warranty, I doubt seriously any extended warranty would cover any water damage. For it to get as bad as it did, it's obvious the coach wasn't checked regularly.

I'm not sure what you mean about the steering system? Is the motor you are referring to the engine on the motorhome, or possibly a motor under a slideout that got wet?

I'm sorry about your problems, but I'm guessing you won't get much help from the dealer, at this point in time.
  • Sure hope the retired teacher didn't teach contract law, because if they did those students ARE due a refund.
  • If you will send me your personal information in a private e-mail, I'll look into getting you a refund on any remaining warranty from your first coach. Extended Warranty coverage is specific to the individual coach, and while it can be transferred from one unit to another, this can often result in a difference in price.

First post....bashing Camping World....:h:h..bought a new coach in 2010 but a 12 yr old motor home with insurance money..something's smells fishy.

That said, your "issue" is with the dealer you purchased it from, certainly not camping world. You obviously didn't read the warranty you purchased or you would have known it covered the trailer and not the motor home. Your responsibility started when you were looking at the coach. You failed to do your due diligence and now want someone else to bail you out...ain't gonna happen.

Also, why are you saying you want a new motor besides the other stuff....?

Too many things wrong with this post.....Dennis

If you don't mind Dennis....I'll hop in your boat!

  • You should of contacted the dealership where you bought the warranty about a refund when the fifth wheel was destroyed.

It's not like you were trading in the fifth wheel on the motorhome. Two seperate transactions.

As far as the motorhome goes, did you get any type of warranty when you puchased it? Or was it "as is"?
  • Why would you expect Good Sam's extended warranty to cover anything but the rig you purchased it for?

I ask because if a single policy purchase covers all future rigs, I'm REALLY interested in buying such coverage.
