white dots

I have a completed trip planned and from one way point to another, for the first time there are white dots (way points) showing which I have never seen before.

We have been traveling the country and first time I;ve seen these.

From Brand SD to Hastings, MN. Recognizing it is rural I didn't know if there was a significance to them. No services?
