Crossing into Canada

I will be camping on the North Shore of Lake Superior in MN from July 18-23 . I will be close enough to Canada that I could drive across.

What requirements do I need to cross ?? And what to cross back ??? I have a Passport (never been used) I have a photo copy of my Covid Card. But, on-line I see all sort of places saying all sorts of things I have to sign up for.

Something about ArriveCAN ? I tried and I can't make that thing work.

Maybe I'm doomed. I only have 2 days to figure it out.

You must use arriveCAN within 72 hours of crossing

I understand "within 72 hours" is there a MAXIMUN time limit? Say 2 weeks. I would like to complete the ArriveCAN form before I leave TN for my trip to CAN.
  • So far as I know every thing after the second dot is ignored, so just the email address up to the first dot is needed. The second dot was suggested as a way to tag websites to see if they were sending spam.

"If someone accidentally adds dots to your address when emailing you, you'll still get that email. For example, if your email is johnsmith@gmail.com, you own all dotted versions of your address:

    john.smith@gmail.com
    jo.hn.sm.ith@gmail.com
    j.o.h.n.s.m.i.t.h@gmail.com

Officially you need to use the ArriveCan. I used it 3 weeks ago at Detroit/Windsor and it worked fine, though a bit fussy.
However, I'm hearing that if you get to the border and claim "it didn't work/no internet access/old and stupid", the border person will in all likelihood approve you. You still need your passport (or enhanced DL) and your covid card.
So if they don't, not a lot lost. Turn around and come back.

Ya, I think your right. I will give it a try and if it doesn't work it doesn't work.

What about all the people I know that don't have the internet or a e-mail address ?

I in a real pickle with my e mail. I always used internet explorer to get it. One day, without sending me a notice, internet explorer no longer support e mail. So my computer guy says what is your e mail address. I tell him it's with CenturyLink and I give him my user name and password (which I have written down). Seems Centurylink doesn't think that is my user name. They will gladly send me a new user name,,,,,by e mail....But, I can't get my e mail without the user name and I can't get the user name without the e mail. :M

So I have been trying to switch everything to gmail. But, my gmail address has a extra Dot in it. Some websites ( including apparently the government of Canada) won't accept a e mail address with a extra Dot in it.

I'll give someone a 100 dollars to get the whole mess straighten out. No one will do it for that low price though.

I'm about ready to move out into the woods of Canada and live like a hermit.

    Except,,, OH, that's right !!! I can't get into Canada because I don't have A FLIPPIN E MAIL ADDRESS. :M
