Jim, thanks for the info and I love the people of San Felipe. The way I see this; if you were happy and they were happy... it was a good deal. There are lots of nay-sayers around, sometimes I feel sorry for them. I have done Mexicali West and Tecate in my Pickup. I am not sure that I would want to use either of them in a large vehicle. I have been considering bringing my Class A DP and wondering which crossing you used. JH
I crossed at the west Mexicali crossing because I missed the turn off for the east crossing. But it was easy. There's like 6 lanes, and as soon as they saw me, a border guard ran out, removed an orange cone, and waved me into the far right lane. Twenty minutes later I was heading south though downtown on a 4 lane, than 6 lane main drag. Outside of town it was 4 lane again, and then finally it necked down to 2 lane far beyond any traffic. I didn't see a single RV on my trip down. The roads are excellent.
On Edit: I am driving a 35' Class A and towing a Saturn. Had no problem with that combo.

Aren't you concerned with the violence in MX?
Not at all. I prepare with lots of reading on Mexico travel forums so I know some tricks of course...like remove the front license plate and put it up in the window to avoid the petty crime issue of stolen plates. Carry a copy of my license so if my wallet is stolen, I still have the original. Act tough even though I'm not (far to many years since I had to be tough). Stay out of high crime areas. Don't be looking for drugs. Don't carry too much cash, and leave my DC at home unless I'm getting money. Never carry my CC. Keep my passport hidden in my RV. Don't look too much like a tourist. Always lock up my stuff.
Pretty much the same stuff you'd have to do on the outskirts of LA or Detroit, huh?
