Below is an attempt to take the numbers from the UN website I posted above to show murder rates around the world over the years. You would have to look at the other chart I posted above to see where Mexico and the US might rate - I also threw in Canada to try to cover North America. Note that before the escalation of the "war on drugs" the rate in Mexico was not good but not horrible either - when compared with other countries around the world. If you go to the UN website you will see the US in 1995 at a rate of 8.1. I am not sure but I think the rate in Mexico is starting to come down. Keep in mind that the rate in Mexico and many other areas comes from drug people killing other drug people - not killing us. If we want to compare the US rate to the rate in Mexico we might also consider comparing the US rate to Canada. Hope this helps to put some of this into perspective.
