Puerto Penasco is a tourist resort town near the border with great shrimp and Americanized Mexican food and businesses dealing in US dollars. I have Tohono Oodham tribes that live all around me. There are Mayans that live near by. My Aunt is Mexican, my Granddaughter is Mexican, many of my neighbors are Mexican. The Mexican and Tohono Oodham cultures are very strong here. But it is not Mexico. Maybe it is Mexico Ultralite.
Take a city slicker to Puerto Penasco and you bet he is in deep Mexico. To the seasoned Mexico traveler Puerto Penasco is an Americanized Mexican town structured for tourist seeking a Mexico experience. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
