A few weeks ago - over two weeks - 60 Minutes on CBS did interviews with the director of the FBI. You may still be able to find it online. One topic was the war on drugs and catching the bad guys in Mexico. The director talked about working with the Gov't in Mexico and the federal police and the marines who eventually caught the number one bad guy. This war has being going on for years. The director talked about how the Mexicans are "relentless" in their pursuit of the bad guys. Whatever you may read in yellow journalism in the US the director of the FBI says Mexico is very serious about stopping the drug cartels. When we travel in Mexico we see the police and the army and the marines doing everything they can to crack down on the cartels. To me this is the big picture and the reality - not those few isolated incidents. These incidents in Mexico are no more a picture of the entire country than the shootings in the US would indicate every school and movie theater is being shot up by maniacs. Bad things can happen anywhere we go. No matter how many police and troops we put on the job anywhere in the world we see the bad guys are still out there. Law enforcement or troops get rid of one and more pop up. This seems to be true just about anywhere you can go. If you think you are totally safe and secure staying at home and perhaps going out to a movie tonight - you are in denial.
