The local government. The last time I check no city mayor in the whole U.S.
Are you really saying you have never heard of a corrupt politician in the US? Never heard of any criminal elected to public office? Maybe they did not have people killed - but then again.....???
Money corrupts all. Cartels have money. Money from those in the US who buy drugs. With money the cartels can either be elected to public office or buy politicians. In the US - back in the days of prohibition - and other periods when the Mafia had tremendous power - many politicians were criminals who got elected. Crimes were committed by elected officials. There were and still are corrupt police in the US. Lots of bad guys to go around no matter where you go.
Reading the referenced/linked article it sounds like they are still looking for bodies? I think I read they found them. In no way am I trying to minimize how horrific this crime was/is. What I am trying to say is you cannot take isolated incidents involving a very small percent of the population and condemn the entire country for these events. Mexico certainly has its share of problems - no denying that fact. Does it mean we will be killed if we go to Mexico - any more than we will be killed if we go to the movies in the US? So twist the logic and think what you will. Everyone has an opinion - but history tells us many opinions are arrived at by twisted logic.
