cknsls: This board ( or at least the Mexico forum) is NOT mostly USA citizens). Nor are most Mexico RV'rs residents of the USA. They are Canadians that could care less about buy American polices. Probably some who are so far to the left that they dislike the USA! I started this thread and like most of this type it is way off subject. It really does not matter if Mexico is safer than the USA or anywhere else. As others have stated it is about perception. If long time travelers are having second thoughts how about newbies? Try going to an RV park in Arizona, Florida or the RGV and tell them you are headed to Mexico. You will be laughed out of the park with: Are you nuts, you are going to be killed, they will steal your RV and more. Of course that is not the truth but the PERCEPTION is what counts. Before the recent upturn in violence and dangerous demonstrations there were interested newbies. But not now. There have always been areas that one had to avoid but that area has increased in size and much of it is areas where RV'rs travel. No one is targeting RV'rs but one could have real problems if you are on the Autopista and they are demonstrating against the GOV. Some of the demonstrators are not students. They are anarchists. Showing them your Good Sam card will not help! Did you see the news story of the US sailor in Greece? Many years ago we were in Juarez. We walked across on a Sunday. As we were getting ready to leave I noticed a crowd and a stage. Like a schmuk I dragged my wife to that area thinking they were going to play music! It was a political demonstration. It was very crowded and I realized we had to leave quickly. The crowd got louder and in a minute they were burning effigies of Reagan! We got out quickly. Our scariest experience in Mexico. Watch some of the videos of the burning of cars and buildings. Do you want to travel in those areas? Unlike Russ and Mex we do not live full time in Mexico. But unlike most RV'rs we mingle with Mexico families and are part of that community. I listen to their stories and have become more informed about Mexico. The good and the bad. Lately the bad has exceeded the good. Bus robberies are on the increase. None are reported by any media. Most Sonorans have relatives in Sinaloa. Even the poor have smart phones and they all use social media. The reports from Sinaloa south are very scary. Unlike 10 years ago the Mexican public is more informed and that could be the downfall of the Gov. I have not checked this week but the demonstrations have spread to Oaxaca and even Mexico city.
