I had to make some modifications to my understep battery holder to fit the height of two GC2 batteries. I think it was worth the effort.
If that's completely impractical for your setup, 2x group 24's would give more battery capacity than a single group 27. As you apparently do a good bit of dry camping, that would be the better choice of the options you list.
