Yeah, you don't have to "hard wire" the TV to 12v if the TV's power cord plugs into a socket in the back of the TV. You have to make up a new cord with the plug for the TV on one end and the cig lighter plug on the other.
Ahh..that helps! Never having owned a newer flat screen type TV, I didn't realize they came with a plug-in type power cord on the TV, or that they a came with a ac/dc convertor...So that explains a lot!
I kind of like Tenbear's idea of using some sort of regulator..just in case. Somewhat like a surge protector for a computer, you could probably get away without one..until you can't! :S
