12 Volt water pump poer supply

93 Toyota Sea Breeze RV. I bought this in a needing work condition. I have accomplished a few things and now doing the eledtrical. The 12V surflow water pump seems To be drawing power from a circuit breaker (don't now what size yet) drawing power at the house battery. Wires are all unhooked, I have no power. When I bought it, the 12V was kind of messy so I unhooked it!

Is there some reason that a circuit breaker at the house battery is used instead of a fuse at the power center?? I would prefer to run a new wire to the power center/panel.

  • Find an RV repair service that can fix the pump wiring. There should be remote switches to turn pump on/off near bathroom faucets, etc. and a fuse in the 12 volt fuse panel. There may be a small "Intellitec" device that is used with the remote switches to avoid resistance problems in long wires. If you want to install a higher flow rate pump, the Intellitec device may need to be added.
  • Thanks for the responses. The electrical system has been worked on over the years so no telling, but I suspect it is factory. Will be much easier to run wire to fuse in panel.

Electrical is not my strong point and this is something of a mess, more like a frustrating mystery to be solved one wire at a time. Jim
  • No reason I can think of other than it was easier/cheaper for the original maker (or some previous owner) to do it that way.
  • Typically water pump is feed thru DC Dist Panel on converter (FUSE) 7.5A
    OR
share a Fuse at panel (15A) and then have an in-line fuse (7.5A) at pump
