Yea the easy way to fix this would be just get a turbo 400 and change the exhaust manifold. I did the one on the drivers side. The other side is way more simple. But at the end of the day I dont want to rely on a 28 year old motor that leaks out of the rear main and valve covers and is doggy. This MH is clean and everything works well. Plus I got it for nothing. I have a budget of $4k approx. I think if I shop around I can get a solid 454 or 502 set it up for low RPM Torque and then 4l80e or the manual. Be nice to run 500lb torque and 350HP. Trans are about the same price, I plan to run a hydraulic clutch so I can run a braided flex line from the pedal to the trans. really only issue is pedal assembly and welding up a cross member and making adjustments to the drive shaft. Of course I would have to fab a shift rod or linkage but should not be that hard really. The position of the gear box is not that far from the normal place in a car. maybe 2-3 feet further back. I plan to make the hole for the shifter behind the dog house. With the right bends it should work. It will be in the way a little bit but doable.
I thought about diesel also but just way more engineering and fab work to get it to work. Plus then you need seperate tank for the Onan gen. Plus issues with emissions testing. And 454 are cheap and easy to come by. All the parts are also cheap.
