Hi,
I googled Suburban 6 gallon DSI water heater and came up with this model, seems like a great price!

$278 for a DSI water heater. Not bad, I need to replace the one in my 97 Bounder too, it should be the same size.
Yours might have come with a manual pilot, or DSI (direct spark Ignition) and have a switch near the stove hood to turn on the water heater from inside. (or control panel). You might have +12 from a switch inside marked water heater to the logical location for the water heater. Mine is below the furnace.
I don't think I can replace mine with a 10 gallon model, that is taller and slightly wider, because of it's basement location and being below the furnace. Yours might be different, as they built them different over the years.
IF yours was a manual light model, it would be simple install for another manual light model. It would require lighting with a match and has a standing pilot. That is not as safe while refueling - unless you turn it off before driving. I much prefer the DSI over the pilot model in my 85 motorhome.
