is it charging the 'HOUSE' battery ? yes / no

IF yes, check your battery combiner relay or solid state diode base battery isolator (because the alternator is working)

IF no, might need a new alternator

do you have voltage at the alternator (large wire)?

Yes, the engine battery.

Both the battery and alternator are brand new.

The alternator checks out at auto parts store but is only putting out 12-12.2 when installed. So I need to discover what's causing this...

Why is the alternator not sending enough power to the battery?

If I put a charger on my battery I can keep driving. If I don't, the vehicle ends up losing power after an hour or so.

Yes, it's 12 - 12.2, depending on where I test it.

It's also brand new and checks out perfect at the auto parts store.

The alternator is not getting the signal to excite it to send enough voltage. Trying to figure out why...

type this in google. (ford F150 alternator charging system diagram) My book is for a 99 but its the same as a F150 truck same year, so location I can not help you on.

Is your battery voltage across the pos/neg the same at the alt. I am thinking not.

Yes, it's always the same, wherever I read it. It always reads the battery.

If its only 12.2 volts, then they are not charge. You should see 12.8 plus or so. Put a charger on the batteries and let it run 12 plus hours and check the water level before you do this.

Yes, exactly.

It's a brand new battery--no water level issue. And brand new alternator. Alternator isn't charging the battery while driving so vehicle dies after a couple hours.

I've been checking all connecting wires and relays and solenoid, etc. All is working. Very confused.

Fuses all good as well (added to list above).

I deleted the steps due to I forgot that I build my battery except my AGM which I purchase.
