1995 Gulf Stream Tire Size

Is it possible for me to upsize my rims on my RV? I currently have 10 bolt 16" rims and would like to upsize them to a 20" rim.

I don't even know if this is possible, has anyone done something like this or heard of it being done?

Thank you Richard for you input...I'm going to check and see what type of tires I have on my MH...that would be a far easier and cheaper fix.

Let me see if I can discourage you from spending so much $$.
Yes Rickson Tire has the rims you need to make the swap.
Many of us with the old Ford F53 460 chassis have had the same thoughts as you, about stepping up to a more robust tire. Most of us did our research and and didn't do it.
The most practical replacement tire is a 225/70R19.5. Same diameter, with-in 2/10". So...no brake issues, no speedometer issues and no clearance issues. BUT! the shorter side wall of the 19.5 tire will ride harder.

You are seeing a tire issue when there is really none.

I suggest you spend you money wisely on all steel carcass tires.
The only all steel carcass truck tires that I know of are:
    Michelin XPS and Bridgstone R250.
Ford elected to use the Michelin XPS as OEM for a reason.

I have been the proud owner of a 95 Bounder F53 for almost 11 years and have had no tire issues.
I normally run right at the chassis limit if 17,000 lbs. No tag axle.
I just returned from a 4 month Alaska trip and found out I was running 700 lbs. over on the rear axle.
    Still no tire issues.
Knowing that my tires do normally run at their maximum load rating, I do replace them on a 7 year schedule.
So in conclusion, spend you $$ on the very best 16" all steel tire you can buy and enjoy RVing.

Thank you...Read some of the testimonies on their site and it looks like the people are really happy with it.

Do you personally know of anyone that has upgraded to this wheel and tire?

I don't remember a truck tire in the 20" size.
Almost everything had 10.00-20 when I started driving. Radials were just starting to come out and the 22.5 and 24.5 came with the radials.

Thanks, my first one had 16 inch and that was back in 75

  • It's a Ford, 460 motor and ford frame (as far as I know).
  • You will have some big $$$$ in it, but you would have to go to 19.5 . I don't remember a truck tire in the 20" size. The first thing to do is see if you have the space. It would be easy if you know someone who has 19.5 spare so you can put it on and really see what it is going to hit. Is it a Chevy or Ford or something else chassis. I sure someone will ring in who has done it or researched it.
