2004 Winnebago Sightseer Hood Lock Frustration

I am a newbie, had our rig for 3 weeks now. Although I watched the guy I bought it from open the hood easily, that was 3 weeks ago. I went to do it today myself. Easier said than done. Counterclockwis...

14 years, never locked my hood. I've got a key for the barrel locks somewhere, but why bother. Only thing worth stealing under the hood is a $200 battery, and someone will tear up $1000 worth of hood and grill to get to it if the hood is locked.
