2005 Freightliner engine info panel check engine UPDATE

So a month or so ago the check info panel light lit up for a few seconds.
It has done it a few times for no more than a second. Always cold, never when it has warmed up. All analog gauges are normal.

So today, the check info panel lit up while it was warm and stayed on over a minute then went off. About 10 minutes later the check engine light came on.
Full Power, analog gauges fine, light goes off after 3-4 minutes.
Drove normal the remaining ten miles to the campground.

Any one seen this?

Guess Ill be calling and visiting FL next year.

Added about half a gallon of distiller water to the tank and no more warning lights

Thanks all.

I was having a very similar problem and it was the coolant being low. Every time I headed out of town up one hill about 25 minutes from the house through traffic. Once I leveled out again on flat road it would stop after 3-4 minutes. At least I know the idiot lights work. :)

I have had the check engine light come on for a short period of time when cold then off again. My guess would be a bad sensor or something. If, the coolant was low, you would get a low coolant display on your dash panel. Best bet would be to scan and see what code pops up and identify it.

    Good luck;)
  • I found a pass code on an old post on IRV forum

8127. I won't be able to try it until this evening.
  • Thanks for the link. I read thru it but don't see anything on what makes the check engine light come on. What I read I didn't like is that there is more detail available that FL doesn't give us PASSCODES for.
I am going to call FL after I check my levels and drive it again.
  • Here is a link to info for the Freightliner MMDC system that is on the RV Tech Library site. Within this site, is a link to a pdf file that is the operator's manual for the MMDC system. The operator's manual is a lengthy 16 pages. Maybe something in one of these documents will help.

  • I have an info display; whatever was stock in 05. I was in pretty heavy traffic and the display is nearly impossible to read. I know there is an upgrade that makes it more readable but haven't yet.
  • Big Katuna,

Do you by any chance, have the "Medallion Information Center" on your dash too? If so, did you by any chance glance at it while that "Check engine" light was on? If not, then maybe the next time it happens and, if you do have the Medallion Info Center on your coach, try and check that Info center to see if it tells you more of what the problem is.

Also, I'm thinking you should have the next version of the "MMDC" or, Multi-Module-Data-Computer too. In case you're not familiar with it, it simply is a gathering computer that takes in all the info from your engine's ECM, your trans ECM, and your ABS module, converts it to be able to be displayed on your gages. Also, there's a section inside that MMDC that through a data link called either the J1939, J1587 or, the J309 it sends any issues to your info center. I forgot which data link goes to that info center.

That J1939 Data link also goes directly to your diagnostic ports on both the rear and front of your coach so, if there's any codes stored, especially from your "Check engine", that's where you'll hook up to read them. It will be interesting to find out if any are stored and for what reason.
