Here's two wrenches on the front shocks of our 2002 E450

This would be Driver Side, and you can see how much the wrench on the hex you can see is able to swing. That's because the Spring isn't there. Contrast with Spring in place on Passenger Side

with about 1/4 turn available.
Here are Old and New Shocks with their different Washer/Bushing/Nut setups.

New is on top, and the lower bushing assembly has the conical pilot that goes through the frame and keys into the bottom of the upper bushing assembly. This is for comparison. The Old may not look right to you, and that's because I broke the top ends off the rods of both shocks getting it apart. The NEW style bushings are one piece, which is why I called them "assembly." Lower has Bushing bonded to Washer. Upper has Nut captive but free to turn on Washer and Washer is bonded to Bushing.
OH, the inner Wrench that you can barely see the chrome on, is a Box wrench on the upper nut. I was able to work the wrench in there through the little space between Frame and Fender Liner.
As a bonus, this is our Navy short on ordnance toward the end of the Vietnam conflict. Douglas Skyraider with a junk toilet supplementing its bombload
