I use the scangauge and tow in hot weather. Never have seen over 208 as that is when the fan kicks in and drops the temp back to my running temp of 190. At the 240 temp I would be worrying about the trans. The trans temp is connected to the engine and does not like temp above 210. Don't remember the numbers but at 220 and above the trans has a decreasing amount of time before damage as temp rise.
