275ISBs in Diesel Pushers

Seeing a lot of DP in the late nintys with the 275 HP ISB. Believe that is the top end for that engine, grown from 190HP or so up to the 275HP version. Does pushing it that much result in more frequent problems. I have noticed a couple coaches where the exhaust manifold had cracked and been replaced. These are on Winne Vetra, Fleetwood Discoverys, and Georgie Boy Cruisemasters, to name a few. There is less torque than the 8.3s in the Dynastys but there is also less weight. Should I be wary of the 275HP ISBs??. Thanks
  • I remember quite a vigorous discussion a couple of years back on the ISB v ISC topic. I believe that the general concensus was that they were 'adequate' for smaller rigs but were being pushed harder than the trucks it was intended for so had some issues.
I believe that they are also easier (cheaper?) to work on than the ISC and later ISL etc

Like everything, maintenance and how the PO used/abused it should be part of your decision process - you don't want to make a wrong decision when purchasing a new RV.
