There are reasons for running the ground separate from neutral.. I will give you ONE of them
MANY RVers, (And a few home owners) have a few screws loose... IN this context I am talking about the assorted screws in the power distribution center (Breaker box) one of my hot wires took over two full turns to tighten and some of the neutral and ground wires needed a bit of tightening as well.
The more chances a short circuit has to find a wire to ground, the less likely it is to ground via you.. And, I can tell you, it is not pleasant when it grounds via you (Been there had it happen) Thankfully my response to an AC shock is to THROW the tool away from me...
