Just two observations:
1. Everything GlenLever said was correct. Does it meet NEC..no.
2. 240vac is wired direct from the breaker box to the "appliance". No circuit as you think of a living room with multiple receptacles for lights, tv's etc;.
As a side note: Utilities (electrical power) are not required to follow the NEC, nor the federal government and other entities.
