just out of curiosity, if the RV wiring, etc. can handle 50 amps, is it possible to use just one side of the 50 and have a true 50 amp unit? yes, I know nobody has done it yet.

Is there such a thing as 6/2 wire instead of the 6/3 used for true 50A service?
Seems to me if the OP was going to enough trouble to change the shore power cable he might as well go for the full 50A conversion with a 120/240V panel and gain ALL the benefits of a 50A service.
