I don't mind being flamed when I put out bad info, but I fail to see how pushing 25A through a (now that I'm corrected) 50A circuit could result in DEATH (does caps make you any deader?).
Aren't you all glad I got the air cleared on this?
And just for grins, if 50A goes out on leg 1, and 50A goes out on leg 2, how much current returns on the common?

THAT was what was wrong.
Not dangerous in itself but it indicated a lack of understanding that COULD be dangerous to someone who did not appear to fully appreciate what is involved.
To answer your actual question - in a correctly configured split-phase 50A set up the neutral current is the DIFFERENCE between the two legs, hence if the two legs are at an equal draw the neutral current is zero.
