''3M" film on front of coach

Greetings folks! "Protection" film applied to front of coach now looks very scratched after a few years of scrubbing. I appreciate any of your remedies. (it looks like a laminate used to protect the very thing that happened to it, but I can't peel it off to show the perfect paint) Thank you!!! Tommy

  • Check with your manufacture. I know Winnebago replaced one on a 03 Journey last summer.
  • Mine is foggy and looks horrible so we are removing it when in Florida this winter. Lots of info on how to do that but we've got the plastic scraper with lots of extra blades, a heat gun and a big can of "goof off". Others who have done this said it will take at least 2-3 days to remove it and then you have to hope the paint underneath is in good shape.
  • I have had my diamond shield replaced 3 times now and it still is looking bad. I have followed every example from diamond shielf to prevent discoloring, From washing every month or so, to using a bleach/water mixture to prevent mildew to using 303. None have worked. This product may prevents a few chips in paint, but the aggrevation is not worth it. diamond shielf wanted $400.00 to take off this last application they did or over $1K to put new stuff on. No thanks, when it gets to the point where I can't look at it anymore, I will take the time to get it off myself and never put this product back on. Had I known it was an inferior product I would never had it put on when I purchased my MH.
  • I had my clear bra put on in 2005 over new front paint and it still looks good today (can't tell it's there). I have only a few bad spots from big rock hits.
  • When we purchased our 03 Dynasty in February of 07 it looked terrible. The 3M mask was yellowing and chipped up very badly. Exactly what it was designed to protect. I know the paint would have been damaged without it but it needed repainting either way.

I removed ours and repainted the entire front cap from the bottom up to mid-way up the windshield where I blended the clearcoat. What a PITA. Prepping and painting was the easy part.

I have not had any protection on the front of the coach for the past almost 7 years now and 40k+ miles and although it does have a few pretty nasty rock chips it is nothing like when we purchased it.

    Mike.
  • Removing the shield is extremely difficult. If you pay someone, it'll be expensive. If you DIY, it'll be frustrating and time consuming. Heat gun and plastic scraper, along with a 12-pack........
  • DiamondShield suggests using 303 Protectant. I just had an area replaced on mine after some body/paint work to repair a custom gash above the right headlight. The DiamondShield tech finished the job by wiping it down with the 303.

I have Diamond Sheild which isn't all that much different from 3M. Mine looks a little dull at times, especially over the black paint areas. When I want it to shine like the rest of the paint, I wipe it down with ArmorAll. It has UV protection. Might just do the trick on yours too.

    Good info Chuckftboy!!! Thank you!!!

  • Ours is so bad that we are going to remove it this winter. Do a searcch on here and IRV2 to see the methods to use to take it off.
