And THEN got it wired up the correct way. Exspensive lesson learned.
Sounds like you have a 120v/30amp service that some knucklehead wired for 240vac, like one would a home clothes dryer and not the case here, as a 50amp service is wired for 240/120vac and exactly the same as a modern household range, which would be the outlet you would purchase at Home Depot or other.
