I have a buddy with 8D's in his country coach motorhome. They have very similar amp hour capacity and lifespan as the Trojan golf cart batteries, but come in a single 6 cell 120 pound package, not two 'easy' to lift 67 pound packages. ..
I will stick with golf cart batteries, thank you!
Another friend got some 'used' generator batteries, 8D and installed them in his Dodge based class C (from the 80's) back in the early 90's. He was able to take home a generator starter battery for free. (we had a huge generator at work). It was only 1 year old, and probably only started the generator about 15 - 20 times before being retired from front line service. This battery did last a long time, but I am really not sure how long it lasted.
So yes, if you can move them, or have a forklift handy, you 'could' use 8D 120 pound batteries. If you can move then yourself, I will always call anyone that strong "Sir". . .
My factory installed Trojan T-105 batteries lasted 13+ years. After 13 years in my motorhome, I gave them to a friend before going full time for a few years. My second set only lasted 6 years, I forgot to fill them with water - that was bad for them. . .
Good luck,
Fred.
