It has recently come to my attention that all new Thor Motorhomes on the E-450 chassis built after 10/01/2014 come equipped standard with an 8,000 pound receiver hitch instead of the 5,000 pound hitch...

I bought a 2004 Sunseeker on an E450 chassis, with a 3500 lb hitch. I wanted to tow about 5000 lbs. I took it to a commercial truck shop, they installed a 10,000 lb hitch, welded some cross members between the frame extensions, and reinforced the original welds on the frame extensions. Said I should be good to tow up to the chassis/axle weight limits now (around 6-7k).
I would assume you could do the same to any motorhome.
