I'm the Original poster.. Reminder.. I had just bought the RV a few months before.. Had driven of freeways without any roof issues .. then cover went on ...
I took it to the repair shop and they said there is no way they could modify it to allow a rubber roof put on because the rubber would not be wide enough to go around the edges and the rails where the fiberglass was seated (on each side) would not help with holding rubber down and there is no rails that would work... So I guess the only option would be to go with a replacement fiberglass roof... And both camping world and this local repair shop said that although the roof is fine... And the damage is the layer of fiberglass and the thin wood layer ( which of course some sections peeled off when exposed) the ENTIRE roof would have to be ordered and shipped from Winnebego.. Does this seem right,,,?
Like I have said.. This was my first RV, hoping to be able to spend a couple years enjoying trips and camping with grandkids.. So I am by no means knowledgeable about RVs.. At least until before all this... And will never be able to buy another.. And I am hearing repair costs of $3, 000 if could have rubber roof placed over $10,000 with fiberglass...
It just doesn't seem fair, but who said life is fair , right...
First off as a commercial contractor I used rubber roof material that was up to 20' wide so ordering the rubber roof material that is wide enough is available. I'm guessing that shop only has access to rubber roofing material through an RV dealer, rather than a roofing dealer. 20' wide EPDM roof material
Have you tried one of the places that does spray on bed-liners, like Line-X, Rhino, etc? I have heard that process is being used as a permanent roof solution for some coaches. Rv Roof spray
Rhino roof
