Another cause of overheating on older vehicles is radiator core fin separation. Over time the fins can look fine but will not be connected solidly to the tubes so the heat can not be transferred out to the air. It will often times start in the corners. The fins will be real weak and actually zip right off the tubes if you pull on them.
