95 Georgie boy Cruisemaster--to buy or forget about it?

We are looking for an older used Class A MH. We saw advertised a 1995 Georgie Boy Class A 30' CruiseMaster widebody.
The ad says fuel injected 460 Ford with full Banks exhaust and cold air intake with a Ford WorkHorse Chassis. So we were reading about Georgie Boys and saw the subject of chassis brought up. How do you tell what chassis a MH has? This particular MH has 98,000 miles on it and he is asking $12,500. It has 2 Kyocera 135 w panels w/controller. 5000w Kohler Generator with only 100 hrs and what sounds like a lot of other upgrades/replacements.
SO--Is this chassis a bad or a good one?
Is 98,000 miles too many?
I know its hard to give advice without actually seeing the MH but what would be your reaction if you saw this ad? Any advice would be appreciated!
  • That year, I believe, was notorious for fuel pump failure. At 90K it may have already been replaced. Just sayin.
  • We are the proud owners of a '96 Georgie boy Cruismaster . Ordered in Jan '96 and brought it home in April of '96. Always thought we would eventually get another unit. But it is such a well built and well designed unit we are still driving it 20 years later. In the last 3 years we have replaced all belts and brakes, second set of new tires. and alignment and a new fuel pump. Also gave it it's first tuneup. Pump is in the gas tank so it had to be dropped. Our unit is a Chevy on p30 chassis with a 454 engine not the vortec. We had the choice of the vortec engine and a small couch slide out both items new to market that year so both unproven. We never regretted our choice. It has close to 70,000 been to California, the Badlands 3 times, Florida, theCarolinas, Canada and thousand lakes area in New York and many Michigan and Indiana campgrounds. We did have a Banks system and Steer Safe put on in 2000 while at a rally in Pomona Ca. It was always stored inside in the winter months, we now have our own pole barn for the last 12 years so if we aren't using it it is in the barn. Those are some of the things to consider would need attention by a new owner. We have always averaged 8 mpg pulling a small '99 Saturn wagon. We also drive between 55 and 60 mph.
  • Most likely a Ford F53 chassis. Of course, price is everything; there will be some repairs needed. It may need new tires, check their "best-before" date. The Ford 460 is pretty much bullet-proof, the only issue with that has been dealt with by addition of the Banks exhaust.
90888 miles is not a big issue if its been maintained. Check for leaks, rot, and as mentioned, tires should be younger than 6-7 years.
    Good luck!
  • Ford Workhorse? It GM workhorse FYI. you have a Ford chasis
  • I don't think FORD is a Workhorse Chassis it should be a Chevy. I think asking to much. JMO
