97 Dolphin Slide & jack issue

We have a 1997 chevy Dolphin and we have no books for it. We moved out the slide and it would not come back in. We assume the best place to start is checking the wiring and fuses but are not sure which fuse box to check.

Once the slide was stuck in the out position, we tried to lover the jacks and they seem to have malfunctioned. The RV is now sitting at angle with the front lower than the back, and the back passenger side is higher, so it isn't level. We aren't really sure where to start.

Do we need to worry about trying to level the RV before trying to figure out how to pull the slide back in? Can we pull the slide back in without it being level and not having to worry about it tipping? How do we find the manual "crank" for pulling the slide back in?

I should mention that the marine batteries and car batteries are all new.

PLEASE HELP!!!!
  • Make sure you really have fully charged batteries or better yet start the engine then try the systems. Get the jacks up before bringing in the slide.
  • 1. You have Powergear jacks. To retract in your case, go to the pump assbly and you will have either 3 or 4 hoses. Most National Powergear jacks had 3 hoses for the 4 jacks. 1 hose for each rear jack and 1 hose that was "T" ed to the front 2 jacks. There is a spring on each jack. Crack EACH hydraulic line at the pump to slightly open the fitting and allow the fluid to run out. Have a Catch pan on the ground under the pump to catch the fluid. You will only have about 2 to 3 qts of fluid that will come out. Once the lines are cracked open the jacks will retract. Once the jacks are fully retracted, tighten the lines back up. On the SIDE on the hydraulic reservoir where you put fluid in is a float switch with 2 wires. Disconnect that float switch to prevent the jack down system from coming on when you start the engine.
    2. 97 National should have the capability of releasing the slide motor brake AT the motor to manually push the room in. If NOT, then you can disconnect the 2 motor wires at the motor and take a 12 volt power source (12 volt cordless drill battery is a good source) and connect the positive and negative to the slide motor to bring it in. IF the motor does NOT operate (Bad) you will have to remove the driveshaft bolts on each side of the motor and once that is done you have 2 or 3 people push the room in and then install a 2x4 brace between the inside slide fascia and the outer wall to prevent the room from moving in transit. I have a 1996 Chevy chassis and have a manual retract. It comes with a hand crank that is 3-4 feet long that I can manually retract the slide which is electric controlled by cables. I had to use it several times before I realized that there was a switch inside off a storage compartment that would get turned off by my bike handle bar. So I would say look for a manual retract hole probably in the step area inside the door way and also a switch. Sounds like your jack system is separate from your slide out. I have the HWH jacks but I'm sure someone with the power gear jacks will be along shortly. Good luck.
