'99 Bounder Front Door Lock

Has anyone replaced the front door lock on a Bounder of my vintage? If so, I need details, mine needs to be replaced shortly. I know it's made by TriMark but they won't help me in determining a replacement unless I take it apart to get the original part number. I'm concerned with doing that in case something breaks or falls apart and I can't get it back together and working until I find a replacement. Any help is appreciated. Chuck

  • Your concern is well founded. Mine failed while both my wife and I were outside and the keys and cell phones were inside. Kindly neighbor called a locksmith who was able to open the driver door, and I was able to maneuver both my wife and I past the back of the driver's seat...fortunately America's Funniest Home Video was elsewhere and missed the show!
  • Thanks D.E. Bishop. That appears to be the replacement I need. Gjac, the current one is old, tired and failing. So I want to replace before it breaks completely. Thanks. Chuck

    Gjac, Much appreciated. I'm trying to avoid making numerous repairs before it completely fails. I would just as soon replace it with a new one and problems solved. Can you provide me with a part number and where you ordered it? Thanks. Chuck
    . My part no is 060650 but each one is different. Look at the web site that Dave posted and pick the one that looks like yours. What is wrong with your existing latch?
  • Sorry, I quoted the wrong info. I looked at the wrong page. I'd give you the number from mine but I'd have to open mine up and you can do that to yours.

    The new catalog only has the new style of lock and doesn't list many replacement parts. Sorry again.

    Try this site, you'll need your key numbers;

    The new lock is about $100. The lock comes apart easily. The assy will be in two halves once you remove the screws the outer handle stays with the outside half and the inside handle stays with the inside half. When I removed mine I found it was a broken spring that I was able to replace. I made two repairs before I eventually had to get a new one. The lock was 20 years old.
  • Once the 3 screws come out, does the door handle slide out or is there more to removal? tommy g, If yours is the same as mine, what did you replace it with and where did you find it. I already have to use a separate key for the door since I have replaced all of the other compartment latches and they could not be keyed the same. Chuck
  • Like Richard said, 3 screws and it's a piece of cake. I replaced mine not long ago. The bad thing is that I have to carry an extra key now. The new one is different than my compartment key.
  • Chuck, if your door lock is any thing like my 95 Bounder, you won't have any problem putting it back together. 3 Screws, I think. Nothing will go flying when it comes apart.
