Semis ran/run million miles before major overhaul of engine. They idled at truck stops etc to keep the Drivers warm, or cool, in summer.
Never did the engines any harm. The newer emissions diesels, I dunno. I haven't read or researched enough about tuning. Our C7 is recommended to run at fast idle so as to not wash the cylinders. It is an emissions engine with higher operating temp, lowered compression, retarded cam timing, more fuel and a cat in the muffler.
Surely there is a Diesel mechanic that can shed some light on the subject. The first round fired in this direction was the EPA. They didn't want idling diesels polluting.
Just like theirs and NHTSA proclamations that small cars were safer than SUVs like the Expedition and so on. Or like the proclamation that ULSD should be not used with additives and everybody not on their chain new better, with Factory Reps telling us to use a lubricity agent.
How about it Diesel Mechanics? :)
