Read the flash code.. using the owners manual look up the flash code...
now days Dollars to Donuts is not that good of bet but I'm betting on the code that suggests "Cranking speed too low/Low battery" which you know is not true because if that were the case it would not have started. but I'm guessing that will be the code.
What is happening:
Onan generators are smarter than many users. IF they are not putting out 120vac, Well, why waste fuel, so when you release the START button it looks for power out (TO not past the breakers, this is why turning them off won't matter) and if there is no power it ASSUMES it did not start (The computer does not monitor the motor, at least not the tac lead, just the generator, and oil level, and a few other sensors like fuel).
IF turning off the breakers DOES keep it running, you have an engine issue.
Oh, How do I know this... Well many moons ago i was out on the dessert and my next door neighbor (thankfully) was parked next to the only two working (part time) 30 amp outlets in the BLM land.. You see, what i describe above, happened to him,, Several folks way more familure with Onan Generators than I worked for several hours, Finally we plugged him into my daisy chain outlets and used MY onan generator to charge his batteries and A/C during the day.
I also know what the problem was,, and if yours is the same all I can suggest is Professional help.. He had to seek professional help, not a job I'd attempt and I'm good at that kind of thing (But my tool box is not so good).
This old genny does not do codes as far as I know.
