A question about power steering fluid change out....

This is a GM 8.1L, 496cc engine with W22 chassis.

It has just occurred to me that it is time to change the power steering fluid. Maintenance sheet says 50 months or 50K miles. We have only 36K miles but 140 months.

I also have discovered there probably is an internal filter (not in-line) inside the reservior. I had no clue about this. It is W/H p/n W8003092, about $68.00 from Brazel's and UltraRV Products.

Question is: Anyone out there with a similar rig changed out their power steering fluid and discovered/changed their internal filter ?

Many thanks

  • Help a neighbor a few years back and his was in one of the lines. It also was under $20. He is on the road so can't ask. Rockauto shows them as in line also.
  • Ran my '04 Southwind 110,000 miles over 8 years. I do not remember doing anything with the power steering fluid other than looking at the level in that entire time.

I don't have the records any longer, they went with the coach, and my memory could be (is) less than perfect. This is not a recommendation to ignore required service intervals:S
