Hey Joatha,
Thanks for that MPG information you don't see that very often. Is there one diesel manufacturer, lets say from 2004 to 2014 that has the best reputation for fuel efficiency?
I've noticed that the diesel seen the most in rigs today is Cummins and the more expensive the rig the larger the Cummins. I also know if there is one diesel that you can get worked on almost anywhere its Cummins. That bodes well for sure!

Those MPG figures are purely anecdotal and apply only to Wanderlodges. Its naturally dependent on weight (and Wanderlodges are heavy), driving habits, and probably a lot of other little factors as well.
I *think* (but am not sure) that the Cummins is probably the most fuel efficient. But, I can't be sure. I do know that if it were up to me, I'd be buying a Cummins for the reason you state - you can get them worked on anywhere. That is what I have in my Wanderlodge (500HP ISM). CAT has exited the RV market. So, over time (granted it will take a LONG time), it will be harder to get them worked on as fewer will be on the road and the number of mechanics with experience on a CAT-based motorhome will decrease. Still, I wouldn't view that as a problem given how long it will take for that to happen. I also wouldn't worry about parts - those will be available for a long time. You can't really even buy a Detroit Diesel - other than in a Newell, Prevost, and Wanderlodge. Meanwhile, Cummins are everywhere and its not hard to find a competent mechanic for those.
Just remember that fuel costs are probably one the smallest parts of the cost of owning a motorhome.
