AC Noise

I would like to make a change to my AC units so they are not so noisey. I have heard that the noise comes from obstructions in the air flow.
I have also heard of people redoing the ceiling vents so that one side in input and the other is output and this eliminated the noise.

Anyone fixed this before ?

  • We set the very front air in the living room to come on at the tempurature we are comfortable with when going to bed. Then set the rear higher a bit. This way the front comes on first and keeping us cool without the noise in the bedroom area.

It doesn't bother me during the day.
  • The noise you hear isn't from obstructions, its usually from the air velocity and the compressor. If you could enlarge the duct, it would be much quieter but that would be hard to do. Some manufacturers duct the return air, lessening, compressor noise. Others install decorative panels on the ceiling to mufffel the sound and hide the unit. Fleetwood locates both a/c units forward over the living area, so atleast the bedroom is a bit quieter. The simplest way to get a quiet a/c is to trade up to a $500,000.00 coach. The ones I have seen are pretty quiet.
