There are no regulations requiring crumple zones, or cages, just the RVIA setting the standard. When you have an Industry that is allowed to regulate the standards, and fight any attempt for any safety regulations beyond safety glass and seatbelts, everytime you get in and drive you are risk for injury. Sad as it is, even Class C's that are conversions with the van type cab no longer have to meet federal Standards once they make it a motorhome. I know a couple who survived a collision in a DP. He said the entire motorhome body was ripped from around him and his DW, all that was left was the front seats and the steering wheel in the front. He said the DW was lucky she was belted in to the couch, and the force of the impact laid her down on it. Had that not happened she probably would have been killed by all the body pieces going by. They both spent about a week in the Hospital.
