The government tests one or two of these vehicles for research purposes. Company I worked for was involved in roll over testing of gasoline transport tank vehicle. It was for research purposes only. But to my knowledge the heavy truck manufacturers are not required to do any crash or rollever tests on their vehicles. Same with the bus manufacturers, but I have seen a very impressive crash test of a Prevost bus. To my knowledge there is no provision of star ratings of these vehicles like there is of passenger vehicles.
"Federal law requires crash and rollover tests for cars, SUVs, semi-trucks and even charter buses. In fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration just conducted a new series of bus tests last month. The explosion of glass and crunch of metal are tools that guide new safety improvement."
