I once saw a documentary about a mean old witch, just standing around minding her own businees when some Kansas farm girl dropped a house on her. The point - do everything you can to avoid it, but don't lose too much sleep over it.
I read an interview with a professional chaffeur or 40 years who had never even had a fender bender. His secret was keeping an invisible buffer on all 4 sides of his vehicle. He always kept 1 car length behind for every 10 miles per hour he was travelling. If a car cut in front of him he would slow down to maintain distance.
We try to drive the same way. Keeping maximum distance between us and other vehicles, travelling the speed limit. Constantly monitoring 360 degrees around our coach, including overhead threats. Slowing down and using extra caution on roads we're unfamiliar with, and not worrying about holding up traffic or being in anybody's way.
2 things I've learned driving a coach:
1. Nobody expects you to go fast.
2. People WILL get out of your way.
The bottom line - do everything possible to avoid an accident, but don't let it stop you from living.
