I have the same issue with my 2008 23a CA ex-rental. I still use one 125ah battery BUT I also added 360w of solar and that has been a major game changer for the better. That said, we have low power needs. No TV, mostly weekend warriors, etc... and I converted every single light to LED. The only time we have issues now with power is when we winter dry camp at altitude. Two days in Yosemite in the winter (November, not Feb.) and I have to turn on the genny OR just swap the battery for another one. Those Wal Mart RV Batteries have worked well for us and are only about $100 each. Takes two minutes to swap out.
