Plan a weekend with the kids, rent a motorhome of the size you are considering and see how it goes. One thing I can suggest is take your time in deciding.
My unit was pre owned with 19K miles on it. There is always something to tighten, tweak, lubricate or replace after each trip. If you are handy with tools you will find most repairs you can do yourself. Just returned from 2 week trip and only one minor issue to look into. I own a Itasca Cambria and comparing it to other coaches I have been in am happy with the build quality of the unit.
If it wears a skirt or has tires.....you are going to have problems......
