No one has addressed the towed car issue. If you can drive a manual transmission, I strongly recommend a Subaru. All Subaru standards can be towed, but beware, no automatic transmission Subaru can be towed, even on a dolly.
Easy pre-towing checklist: Car in neutral, brake off, turn key 1 click to unlock steering and GO. No distance restrictions. No speed restrictions.
The Honda CRV is probably the most towed car, with the possible exception of a Jeep, but requires a procedure that involves starting the car and running through gears every so many miles. The Honda Fit can be towed, but requires the same procedure as the CRV.
