Advice on class C RV

Hi everyone. My in laws are looking at getting their first RV. They want used and I think their budget would be in the 20-25k range. They have hears great things about Lazy Daze in terms of build quality. Does anyone have first hand knowledge of the brand. Also, advice on other great used RV brands? Thanks. I understand this is somewhat an open ended question, but I told them I'd ask you all about some great advice for great brands with excellent build quality. I own a TT, so my knowledge of MH's is limited. Thanks. Matt

  • rock hill is right, limited funds also limits what is available. Most late models will be in the 40-50K range units 10 or older may be close but some folks think what they have is gold and ask for way too much as a result.

Look at craigs list to see what is available and expand the search to areas not immediate to where you are. Be careful however as some described as beuties, well they may have been at one time but.... friend went to las vegas to see a cream puff MH, said once there it was junk. So look ask around on here or other rv websites for someone willing to check out for ya, offer a reward for doing so and maybe they will do just to help w/o reward. Never can tell. There are some dealers up your way that advertise nationally and also in calif, give them a look see but generally buying from dealer also means more cost in most cases and not necessarily a good unit after the fact.

texas and here in az you can find some deals depending on what you are looking for. so cal also has some deals on craigs list

They will be looking at used units with their budget. So it's a moot point about the brand because you will be limited to what you find in that range on any lot on any given day. And the unit will have been previously owned by someone who may or may not have taken care of it just like any vehicle.

Just check out all the used RV lots. Don't limit yourself to Lazy Daze's used lot either.

It's similar to buying a used car. You will know when you start it up and get in side if it was well kept and has the quality you want. Use your knowledge of TT's to help them. The guts are all going to be the same as your TT just a motor/drive train has been shoved underneath it!!

I've bought used MH's that have given me great service and I have been very happy with them. Of course I am partial to the Ford V-10. :W

Hope your in-laws find just the right new to them MH. :C
  • You might want to join the Lazy Daze yahoo group, "Life with a Lazy Daze RV". The amount your folks are looking to spend would buy a unit that is 13 to 16 years old in relatively good condition. They can be had for less but less generally comes with other issues. I believe Born Free has their own forum as well.
I would imagine the other good RVs like Born Free fall into the same price range. The good news is that your on the west coast. Lazy Daze are more plentiful there as compared to the east coast where I live.

  • That $20-25K would be a good down payment on good used Lazy Daze ..

Not trying to sound like a wise ass ;)

It appeared at least when we were looking the 21-26 ft MH's were higher priced than the 28-32 ft used MH's we looked at. Used that is !

To be honest I think most used are just a c r a p shoot of getting one with little or no problems, like other posts here look em over good then if you are getting serious about a certain one pay a good mechanic / rv tech to do an inspection on it.
  • They should also consider a Born Free unit. Also a high-end build for a Class C.
