Advice on new fantastic or Maxx fan

Our fantastic fan in the bathroom has died. Looking at a catalog for these fans I see that most come with a built in thermostat. I'm confused what this would be for. Our other fantastic fan is wired to a wall thermostat but the one that died is wired to an on/off switch on the wall. What would we want a built in thermostat for?

  • Too much automation is more stuff to break. I'd keep looking for the wall switch type or try to repair the current fan you have (they are not too complicated and may just need bearing oil).

  • What catalog did you find a Maxxxxfan in? I was under the impression they were out of business / discontinued when they pulled their product from PPL / Amazon / eTrailer.
  • Wall thermostat is much better, but since Fantastic Fans are very reliable, the ones you see aftermarket are aimed at replacements for the cheap OEM fans some models have. To avoid a wiring project the thermostat is on the fan.

As suggested, I would see if your fan is warrantied. Have you checked your thermostat to confirm your problem is not there?
  • I'm not sure how they are now that ownership has changed hands but Fantastic Fan used to stand behind their products for life.

By all means contact them with your issue and be prepared to get the replacement parts for free. Fantastic is a great company.

Let us all know what they do for you.
  • Yeah, I just replaced mine last month. The new one had a bi-directional fan instead of the thermostat. I like the new one so much I may cut another hole in the roof for a third one.
  • Neither of our Maxx fans are wired to the wall. All controls , on/off,direction, thermostat, and open/close knob are on the fan.

The original Fantastic Fans were unidirectional; we wanted bi directional and were quite cross when the dealer changed the Fantastic fans for Maxx fans. I believe the Fantastic Fans draw less current and they are certainly quieter.
  • Hi,

Check to see if Fantastic will warranty the existing "dead" unit.
  • I used a maxxaire type that had the motor/blade out and aimed down and could be left open and run in the rain. also noise was moved away from opening. a better idea than the fantastics.

  • Instead of running all the time, the tstat allows the fan to shut down when the interior temp is met. Doug
